Frequently Asked Questions
-
Will PV Solar panels work during the winter?Yes. Solar panel manufacturing technology has now advanced to a level that the system can now produce power on an overcast day.
-
What happens when I produce more electricity than I need? When your PV system produces more electricity than you need, the surplus will be “exported” or sold automatically back to the national grid. Power NI will pay you extra for this surplus power. If you have a Battery installed, the surplus energy will be stored in the battery for later use.
-
How big a PV solar energy system do I need? The size of solar system you decide to purchase depends on the available space to install the panels and how much you choose to invest at the outset. To speak to one of our experts with help deciding on the size of the system or for a free quote call us on 028 9336 4600.

How does my solar panel system work?
-
How is solar power environmentally friendly?Solar power is a renewable source of energy, so unlike coal it won’t run out. Plus solar energy is environmentally friendly because it doesn’t generate green house gases. Renewable energy technologies will help you reduce your carbon footprint, meaning you’ll personally be doing your bit for the environment.
-
How much will my solar panel system cost? Our domestic 10 panel (4kW) system starts from £4,950 with 0% VAT. Our commercial 30 panel (12kW) system starts from £10,950 excluding VAT.
-
What are the benefits of solar?Reduced electricity bills: A 4kW system will save the average home owner up to £1,200 a year on their electricity bills Lower carbon emissions: Solar panels don’t produce any carbon emissions, which will help to greatly reduce the impact your home has on the environment. No running costs: Once installed, you won’t have to worry about any operating costs as they create free renewable energy for your home. Low maintenance: Other than making sure the panels are getting enough light (make sure they’re not being obstructed) there’s not a lot else to worry about. Charge an electric car for free: Reduce your fuelling costs if you have an electric vehicle.

How much will I save on my electricity bills a year? For a 10 panel (4kW) home system, you can save up to £1,200 (€1,393) a year on your electricity bills. For a 30 panel (12kW) commercial system, you can save up to £3,600 (€4,179) a year your electricity bills.
-
How long will it take to install my home solar PV system? We can have your whole system installed and running within 1 day!
-
What is a solar battery?More often that not, solar panels are generating more energy that can be used around the home at any one time. All the excess energy is then sent to the electricity grid, meaning that you’re losing out on energy being generated by your panels. By including a solar battery part of your solar PV system, you can hold onto the unused energy to use during the night when your solar panels aren’t generating any energy.
-
Will my solar panels need any maintenance or upkeep?Since there are no moving parts, solar panels require very little maintenance. Once you have covered the installation cost of solar panels, there are not many costs associated with maintaining them. You should inspect them a few times per year for dirt or other things that might have collected on top. It is important that the panels are clean and there is nothing blocking them from efficiently absorbing the sun. For a general cleaning, you can just use a normal garden hose to wash the face of the panels. You should do this in the morning or evening.
